Powered Subwoofers

Powered Subwoofers

A true surround sound system is not complete without the right subwoofer to bring in the bass and “wow factor” to music and movie soundtracks. Home theater subwoofers are classified as either passive or active. Passive subs require an external amplifier to operate, while active subs (aka powered) include a self-contained amplifier. When designing your home theater, it’s important to consider the differences between passive or active subwoofers. Passive subwoofers are limited to the power output of the external amp. Powered subs, on the other hand, operate independently and work with virtually any receiver or amplifier. A well-designed powered in-wall sub will include a carefully crafted enclosure that keeps thumping bass from leaking outside your theater so other rooms won’t feel the rumble.
