Stereo amplifiers are a staple in home theater and distributed audio because of their flexibility. A stereo amp provides power to two separate channels, typically left and right speakers and the power requirement of that amp depends on the system you’re designing. A stereo amp can be used to bump up the sound of rear speakers in a home theater system or can be used to power a pair of patio in-ceiling speakers. Stereo amps can range from simple two-channel power units or more complex amps with A/B source switching where you can toggle between sources. Before you choose, consider your room size, ceiling height, and space. For a small room, a 50 Watt amp (25-Watt times 2) may do just fine. For larger spaces, you’ll have to go with a power amp rated at 75W or higher. It’s always better to have more power than you need and bring it down.
